Canon PIXMA printers are some of the best-looking and best-performing printers out there, as Canon is always looking to innovate and add more nifty features This time around, we got to play with the Canon PIXMA MX727 all-in-one printer.

Canon continues the tradition of launching their PIXMA MX-series printers in black, with the MX727 being one of the larger printers in that line. Unboxing and setting up the printer takes quite a bit of time as there are various tapes and stickers that you need to take off first, and having installed the ink into the printer, it needs to run a round of diagnostics test to see if everything is installed and functioning properly.

With that out of the way, the MX727 brings with it a fairly large number of interesting features, chief of which is the new Dual Function Panel, which works as an alternating touch panel interface and display that shows specific functions to the user, improving efficiency as a whole. The MX727 also features both WiFi and LAN cable support for connectivity, and can connect to the Internet via WPS as well, which simplifies setups.

As mentioned before, the MX727 is an all-in-one printer that is capable of printing, scanning and copying. As we tested out the printer, it was capable of some pretty good print speeds for an inkjet printer, coming in at around 30-40 pages a minute when it comes to black and white printing, and about 20 pages a minute in colour.

What’s also impressive is the print colour of the MX727. From all the pages we printed out in black and white, none of them had any rogue ink spots, and the printouts are crisp and clear. The colour printouts also weren’t all too shabby, though they would’ve looked better on photo papers instead.

The lower cassette is capable of holding up to 250 pieces of A4 paper, and small offices can definitely benefit from this as well considering that it also has networking capabilities that can be used to share the printer amongst many PCs in the office.
